The Pharmatrust Library

The Library supports the learning, teaching and research functions of Pharmatrust Professional College (PPC) through provision of a relevant, contemporary, well- balanced collection and high quality, equitable access to resources. The Library aims to acquire, preserve and provide access to diverse collections of scholarly information, made available ubiquitously to students and staff both on campus.

Library Access

Current student ID card or staff ID will be used to access Pharmatrust Professional College library facilities.

Conduct in the Library

Users of the Library are expected to be considerate of the comfort and convenience of others. In particular:

  • eating and drinking are not permitted except in designated areas as determined by the Director Library Services and University Librarian;
  • smoking is prohibited throughout the Library;
  • mobile phones and audible pagers are to be switched to silent mode on entry to the Library and are not to be used within the Library precincts;
  • cameras and other audiovisual recording equipment are not to be used in the Library except with the approval of the Director Library Services and University Librarian;
  • animals (other than guide dogs) may not be brought into the Library;
  • talking is not allowed in designated 'Silent Zone' areas;
  • notices, newspapers, broadsheets, advertising or other material may only be displayed or distributed with the approval of the Director Library Services and University Librarian or a delegated Library officer;
  • users may not deface, damage or destroy books or other library material; and
  • users may not in any way interfere with the personal belongings of other Library users.

Loan Periods, Limits and Renewal

Standard Loans

  • a total of 10 items at any one time
  • 14 calendar day loan period per item with optional 14-day renewal periods up to a maximum of 84 days from the initial renewal date
  • reference materials and journals available for loan
  • late fees apply

Extended Loans

  • a total of 15 items at any one time
  • 28 calendar day loan period per item with optional 28-day renewal periods up to a maximum of 168 days from the initial renewal date
  • reference materials and journals available for loan
  • late fees apply

Staff Loans

  • a total of 30 items at any one time
  • 56 calendar day loan period per item with optional 56-day renewal periods up to a maximum of 336 days from the initial renewal date
  • reference materials and journals will be available for loan

Late fees and Penalties

Students who fail to return items on or before the due date or specified time incur late fees and penalties. These fees and penalties are designed to assist students by maximizing access to, and availability of, library materials. All fees referred here will be paid directly to the accounts department of Pharmatrust Professional College.

Overdue items: Suspension of Privileges

Further borrowing privileges are suspended when items on loan are not returned on or before the due date. Borrowing privileges remain suspended until all overdue materials are returned and associated late fees discharged.

Late Fees: Possible Suspension of Privileges

  • Failure to return a borrowed item on or before the due date or time will incur a late fee on return of the overdue item(s)
  • Late fees payable directly to Pharmatrust Professional College are levied at the following rates:
    • Reserve Collection items 10.00 cedis per item per hour or part thereof
    • General Collection items 10.00 cedis per item per calendar day or part thereof
  • In circumstances where individual borrowers' late fees total 20.00 cedis or more, borrowing privileges are suspended.
  • Late fees are capped at a maximum amount of 30.00 cedis per item with the exception of electronic devices.
  • The Campus Librarian, Client Services Manager, Library, Lending Services Librarian, an Associate Librarian or the University Librarian may, in particular circumstances, (e.g. substantiated illness or misadventure) waive late fees.

Lost and Damaged Item Charges and Penalties

Lost items must be replaced or their replacement cost reimbursed.

Standard Fee

A standard fee of 100.00 cedis (minimum) or actual replacement cost per missing item applies for General or Reserve Collection items. A 30.00 cedis processing charge is levied in addition to the lost item charge payable directly to Pharmatrust Professional College.
